How To Reap the Awards from Corporate Events

Some of the greatest organizations in the world know all about how to motivate their staff. Why does it matter?   Because they  know that focusing on their staff will get the best results. They know that dedication is necessary to achieve important company objectives.  It's true that success in anything has one fundamental aspect—effort.  For instance, create a great award ceremony.  Plan a corporate event.  Build a special training course. Create incentive programs. Don't just take action. Take action with commitment. Then, when you're ready for exponential results apply the extra effort. Show your team that you care about them and they will do the same.

Russo's On The Bay is the expert at planning any kind of event. In fact, we have been planning events at Russo's for over 25 years.  The Russo family began creating extraordinary events in the 1950's in Queens, New York.  Our consultants told us, many of which have decades of experience, that "Holding a successful corporate event can have many benefits, from the obvious, such as team building and problem solving, to the not so obvious, such as increased productivity and morale." But what is the best way to go about this sometimes daunting task? Our consultants came up with this list to help get you started.

Define your goals, e.g. team building
Before you think about the event itself, you need to identify what you want to achieve from it. You may want to reward your employees for a job well done, or perhaps have a fun day to increase staff motivation. Many events are designed to enhance skills such as team building, problem solving or leadership, and most events can be a combination of fun and learning. Compile a list of goals in order of importance so you can stay focused on the aims of the day when deciding which event to run.

Should we organize internally or out-source to a catering hall with event management expertise?
The next decision to make is whether to organize the event internally or to out-source the event to an event management company or catering hall. Organizing a corporate event internally is time consuming and costly, but it could be given as a development task to suitable staff. One of the pitfalls of organizing corporate events yourself, is using an inexperienced facilitator, as they may not be capable of keeping the event on track or preventing things getting out of hand. Not only could an event management company provide an experienced facilitator or MC, there is also the advantage of having someone else worry about all the details. An experience event planner can sort through the hundreds of details that have to be thought of to create a memorable experience.

In fact, many companies have been shocked at the amount of time organizing an event actually takes, from designing the event, sourcing the venue, booking the venue, sourcing and organizing the equipment, preparing the venue, sorting out transportation, organizing the food and refreshments and obtaining public liability insurance, to paying the bills to various companies. A catering hall with event management expertise has the capability to organize all your needs, keeping task management low for your company. The great thing about Russo's On The Bay is the fact that we have an onsite Concierge, Kelly Greco. She handles the various details to have a smooth event, such as lighting and sound, flowers, and other event details. She can be reached at kelly@russosonthebay.com.  To learn more about our experienced staff, go to: Our Management Team

Choose your event
So you know what you want from an event, and you know who will be organizing it, but now you may be asking, what exactly should I be doing on that day? The event needs to be chosen carefully to ensure you meet your desired goals whilst getting the most from the participants. Consider your audience. If one of your goals is to give people new experiences then you may want to run a very creative event for IT people or a chaotic event for auditors, but otherwise you may not get the best out of the staff if they are feeling way out of their comfort zone.  A catering hall with event expertise will offer creative ideas to suit your goals, leaving you to choose the most appropriate choice. They will also tailor events to your requirements, and will have run these events many times before, so you can be certain your event will have a seamless outcome.

If you are organizing the event yourself, you need to ensure it does actually give you the required benefits. It is all too common to get carried away with an idea, and later realize it changed so much that the event did not achieve many of the original goals. If you are organizing it internally, you will also need a practice run, preferably at the actual location, to iron out any practical problems before the big day.

Analyze the outcome
Particularly if the event had goals other than just having fun, it is important to analyze the outcome. You, or the event management company, can obtain feedback from the participants in the form of questionnaires. You also need to consider the less tangible benefits from the event, for example, are the teams now getting along better, is productivity up due to better team morale, or has illnesses and time-off been reduced? Think about what you can learn from the feedback, such as understanding your staff better, making changes to the workplace/procedures, or shaping future events.
